TREKKING
What are the differences between walking, trekking and climbing you may well ask? We decided to use 3 categories to clearly show what is involved with each experience.
Walking involves staying in one place, heading out each day on walks in the surrounding area.
Trekking involves walking from A to B along a route, carrying your own gear or with porters, whilst staying in a new place each night - the goal to reach a predefined destination, peak or area.
Climbing takes trekking a step further involving technical mountain climbing equipment - ropes, crampons, ice axes, helmets, etc... and of course qualified, experienced guides.
More and more people are deciding at some stage in their lives to see what all the curiosity is about reaching the top of a large mountain - go above 12,000 feet. One of the mountains that's opened up this whole new world is Mount Kilimanjaro on the Tanzania, Kenya border. You don't have to be Chris Bonnington to reach the summit. You just need a good dose of 'i can do this if i stick with it'.
You also don't have to go far, 3 1/2 hrs flight from London, to Marrakech and within an hour you're up in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco walking through semi arid scenery and amongst traditional Berber people and their villages.
These are just a couple of the many areas we recommend.
