Head off down 13km of untarmaced road into the heart of Transylvania. You will arrive at your base, the recently restored Apafi Manor, in Malancrav ready to explore this beautiful and fascinating area. This is a place that has it all, stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, an enthralling history and an ancient culture. Mount up and head off into the countryside in search of what makes this such a special trip.
The forests of Transylvania offer a small glimpse of Europe as it was in the Medieval period. Land use has remained unchanged for centuries and this has led to an area rich in wildlife and with a stunning natural and manmade landscape.
Life here still revolves around the seasons and has an intimate connection to nature. Most families still keep livestock and the area has had little exposure to pesticides or herbicides making for great biodiversity. The resulting harmony between humans and nature has created a landscape full of interest and offers an authentic experience for those searching for ways to leave the bad bits of the 21st century behind and immerse themselves in a simpler life.
You will ride out everyday from your base in search of new discoveries, be they natural or cultural, although the two are so entwined here it may be hard to tell them apart. This is a trip that caters for all levels of rider and would be ideal for a group or family of mixed riding ability. It also offers a variety of other activities so should your muscles require a break from riding there will always be plenty to occupy you from bird watching to cheese making.
