GORONGOSA WALKING SAFARI
Setting off into the wilderness of the Gorongosa National Park on foot is an exciting experience. The variety of ecosystems here is pretty unique leading to a huge diversity of game, some species of which are found nowhere else in the world. There is so much to see and being on foot enables you to gain real insight into the details of the surrounding landscape.
Your trip begins with a drive across the country, covering 200km you will travel from the outskirts of the city of Beira, through classic Mozambican towns of decreasing size, rural villages and eventually into the park itself. This is an excellent and scenic introduction to the country. Your first day at camp is spent settling in, before you go off on a game drive to get a taste of what the park has to offer. Over the next three days you will explore the area on foot, seeing which species of the huge variety of game that inhabit the park you can spot.
With over 400 species of birds this is a birders paradise, but thats not all - lions, nile crocodile, elephant, leopard, zebra, hippos and the Gorongosa gerbil are all available for your viewing pleasure along with many other species.
With your expert guides there to show you what to look for, no sign, track or mark is left unexplained and you have all the time you wish to explore what the park has to offer. Walking really gives you the chance to see beyond the big game, as spectacular as they are, and to get to know the smaller or more timid animals that also call the park home. Hopefully leaving you with an even more memorable experience.
