MOTSWIRI RIDING AND WALKING
Come and explore the Selinda spillway, an ancient watercourse in the far west of northern Botswana. Ride, walk or simply relax and take in the beautiful scenery and see which of your animal neighbors you can spot.
This trip offers you the option of either riding or walking, depending on whether your feel more comfortable on your own two feet or on the four feet of someone else. Each offers an excellent way to explore the area and feel more connected to the landscape. Walking offers the chance to really appreciate the detail of the area along with seeing many of its main attractions. Your guide will be able to point out the tracks and signs left by animals both big and small and help you to discover those animals that are more timid. Riding is also a great way to see the sights both big and small and also has the added exhilaration of a gallop through the floodplains.
For those who love both riding and walking it is possible to combine the two or you could simply make two trips - theres always plenty to see! Walking takes place from your base, a beautiful lodge in the reserve to which you return everyday. Riders are more mobile and can experience fly camping away from the lodge.
This remote area hosts a large number of animal species due to the diversity of its vegetation, it combines the open flood plains of the Okavango Delta with the dense, riverine forest that lines the Selinda spillway. This makes for great wildlife spotting opportunities and if birds are your thing, the birding here is truly superb. Apart from our feathered friends the reserve also hosts giraffe, elephant, zebra, tsesebe, roan antelope, sable, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.
For those who want to ride, this is a trip for experienced riders only as you will be riding in remote areas in the presence of big game. You should ride regularly, be comfortable at all paces and have a secure seat.
